Wisconsin Lions Camp Director, Andrea Yenter
The Wisconsin Lions Foundation is beginning a new series highlighting members of the WLF staff. We’re proud to have such an amazing team working together to help others, and we’d love for you to get to know them, and their story.
This month we highlight Andrea Yenter, Camp Director at Wisconsin Lions Camp.
Tell us a little about yourself (hobbies, personal interests, who are you outside of work)?
I have been married to my husband Craig, who is a middle school science teacher, since 2018. My son Andrew, who is 19, works full-time and is attending school for machining. I consider myself an avid reader, and I love canning garden produce Craig grows over the summer. Cooking, being outside, playing volleyball, scrapbooking, and volunteering for the American Camp Association are also passions of mine. I serve as the Rosholt Lions Club secretary along with being a member, and I am also the Secretary for Rosholt Area first responders, of which I’ve been a member for more than 22 years.
How long have you worked with Wisconsin Lions Foundation?
I was a camper from the summer of 1987 to 1992. I volunteered in the summer of 1993. I was a seasonal staff member from 1994-1999 and was hired full-time in 1999 as the Program Supervisor. In 2001 I moved into the Assistant Director role, and in 2003, I took over as the camp Director. This year marks my 20th year as the Camp Director.
How would you describe the Wisconsin Lions Foundation and what you do?
The Lions Foundation provides opportunities to those we serve – opportunities for better sight, improved health through diabetes education, better hearing, and the best week of the summer at Camp! I get to coordinate with an amazing team to make those best weeks of the summer happen.
How did you find your way into your current role?
Just was in the right place at the right time – and took advantage of the opportunity!
What’s your favorite part about working with the Wisconsin Lions Foundation or your role?
Seeing our campers return year after year, watching them become pretty terrific people. The same goes for the seasonal staff — watching them grow and develop over their time with us and then head out into the world doing great things as educators and other professionals.
What message do you have for someone interested in becoming a donor to Wisconsin Lions Foundation? For someone interested in becoming a volunteer/Lion?
Donating to the Wisconsin Lions Foundation is investing in the future of those we serve. Investing your dollars and time into these projects multiplies your work in exponential ways. I would be Exhibit A here!
