Pete Rekowski, Facility Director

The Wisconsin Lions Foundation has a series to highlight our many team members who work behind the scenes to ensure our Foundation and the Wisconsin Lions Camp run smoothly. This month we’re spotlighting our Facility Director, Pete Rekowski.

Please take a moment to get to know Pete by reading about his employment story, his favorite aspects of the job, and what he likes to do in his free time.

How long have you worked with the Wisconsin Lions Foundation?
Since 1994, so 29 years. I started as a Maintenance Assistant.

How would you describe the Wisconsin Lions Foundation and what you do?
We make people happy. I love seeing the kids happy. The outcome of having the Wisconsin Lions Camp does that. We keep the grounds well-kept and safe for the campers to enjoy during their time here.

How did you originally become involved with Wisconsin Lions Foundation/Camp?
Well, one day before I worked here, I was driving past and the road was slippery. I ran into a pole near the boy’s cabin area. Mike, the Maintenance Manager at the time, pulled me out of the ditch. We ended up talking for a while. Later,  a job became available and Mike asked me to interview for the maintenance department, and I did.

What is your favorite part about working with the Wisconsin Lions Foundation?
I have several parts of my job that I enjoy. I love coming to work. I enjoy driving the tractor tours around the lake. I enjoy getting to know our seasonal counselors who work with the kids that come to Camp. I like getting to know our Board members.

What message do you have for someone interested in becoming a donor to Wisconsin Lions Foundation? For someone interested in becoming a volunteer/Lion?
We run by donations. I encourage you to talk with us about what we do and how the work we do puts smiles on faces. Visit Camp and see the positive impact on the people who attend.

What are your hobbies and interests outside of work?
I’m a farmer, a volunteer for the Fire Department, FFA Alumni, and also a volunteer at the church during Friday Fish Frys and help to run the Hamburger Stand. I am a Rosholt Lion. I enjoy hunting and watching my son show cattle in my free time.

In one word, describe the Wisconsin Lions Foundation and its Mission:
Serve.
